Things are on track to have a GREAT seminar. Royce gave a very interesting interview yesterday on "The Sports Fix" 1340AM (Thanks Andre!) regarding his future ("at least one fight next year"), a candid discussion of the loss to Hughes (Quote Royce "I didn't show up, I must have stayed in the locker room for that one"), and future MMA Stars (Where he listed several of his standout students including Rob Khan, Buddy Clinton, and *ahem* Tosh Cook).

Also, my long time friend, training partner, and brother from another mother PAT KING is bringing 5 or 6 of his guys from LA, and Evaldo Lima is bringing some of his crew too! Lots of talent in the house!

The schedule is a KIDS ONLY jiu-jitsu seminar today (Friday 2/23) from 6-8pm, and adults tomorrow saturday (2/24) from 10am-1pm.

We still have a few spots left, but just a couple...so if you are planning on coming, call New Era 559 322 4084 ASAP!

Support Jiu-Jitsu!

We have 2 new blue belts! Don't get me started on trying to get a purple belt or above from Royce. He's only given 3 purples at my school, Me, Victor, and Tom Knox...pretty high bar, IMHO. And Royce always tells me, "Tosh, I'm not going to give you a brown belt. You are going to have to wait so long my son will have to end up giving you your brown belt." (His oldest is like 7) lol

Of course he told the same thing to Pat King, and the day he gave Pat his brown belt he had his toddler carry it accross the mat to him, so he technically meant what he said...

Thanks el_chingon559.

Knee is getting pretty strong. I'm giving it plenty of time to heal, I think it will be a few more months until I can roll solid again. I'm already lifting weights, shooting hoops, boxing, and almost done with all the rehab stuff.

This time on the sideline has been tough. I love to fight so much: all the training, sparring, fighting, competing, etc...to have that taken away so suddenly has made my focus and desire so much stronger. Especially now that MMA is so huge. I will do whatever it takes to get back to form.

I'd anticpate a warm up fight for me in summer or fall of this year (I hear there is a new organization in Lemoore that is pretty decent, maybe the promoter will take a chance on me ;) ), and once the ring rust is gone I really want to step in in competition. I've always hated to call out names so I won't do that...I just like to fight!

Keep healing up Tosh, you've got a place to get back on track in the PFC.

I'm sure I'll be seeing you up at Repos Gym..I'm going to be up there a day or two a week starting in April.

but seriously, any other type of striking besides boxing tosh?

TOSH

lol I'm a much better striker then I get credit for. That was my intro in martial arts 15 years ago. Also 4 years at Benny the Jet's kickboxing under the late Lily Rodriguiz, and I competed and won an IKF match. I also used to box down at Ringside with Wes, many moons ago.

For me, standing and throwing bombs can be very risky. You only have to make one mistake, drop your left hand an inch, and boom, fight over. Where if I'm submitted, I had to make several mistakes along the way, ie, I gave up position, then let him control a limb, then let him get to the finish. In other words I had to make 3 or 4 mistakes, a lot more then the one inch of difference between a block and a ko. When I fight the most important thing to me is winning, so I go with whatever has the best odds.

I still can't roll or kick, but I can punch and pivot just fine, so I'm boxing as much as I can. And I'm pretty confident when I return my hands will be sharper, so its a win win.

Christian, I don't know how I will do getting past your 14 foot reach, but hit me up when you are ready and I'll give it a go!
