Concerns are few as fight night approaches
Sentinel Sports Reporter Jeremy Luchau is training to be a mixed martial artist, a project which will end with a bout in the Palace Fighting Championship at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino on October 18.
Everything is coming together for me at the right time.
I’m not worried about a thing.
My stand-up game has improved to a level where I feel comfortable sparring. My eyes are open, I’m not closing them when the fists come flying.
With just over a week left we are gearing down my training with a lot less contact, but plenty of technique and cardio.
“This is a big improvement from Day 1 ’til now. You have good hand combinations and knee and kick combos,” Muay Thai coach Richard Batin said. “Your balance has improved and your sparring is very impressive, especially with the game plan that we’ve been working on specifically for this fight.”
My conditioning and endurance feels great.
“You started the macrocycle a little more than 7 1/2 months ago. You are in the final two microcycles and last phase of training. You are getting ready to peak in my opinion. You have definitely gotten stronger and increased your power output,” strength, speed and conditioning coach Steve Novencido said.
And at the start of my training with Novencido I always wondered how all this science was going to benefit me. Couldn’t I just go into VQ Fitness and pound away on the weights?
I was blessed that VQ Fitness manager Ron Rodriguez took me in and had the knowledge to put me in touch with Novencido.
“The majority of the exercises used in the last couple workouts will be sport specific in nature. Specificity is the key to your strength and performance gains. I haven’t said this in a while, but someone will pay for your pain and I will be the first to say, we put a V-12 engine in your Volkswagen bug body. The training will pay off,” Novencido said.
My weight is perfect — 161 as of Monday night and I feel stronger than ever.
“So far you have shown me so much improvement in your training,” Batin said. “I am very impressed and enjoy training you.”
This is the last week that you can pick up tickets at The Hanford Sentinel office for my fight against Fresno’s Shahob Nasrabadi on Oct. 18 at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino. General admission tickets are $30 and there are less than 30 tickets available for the loaded Palace Fighting Championship “Project Complete” card.
Don’t miss out and forget to pick up your tickets.
